Move-in checklist

Two weeks before

• Book movers or a van — Saturdays fill up fast in Vancouver.
• Submit a change of address with Canada Post.
• Set up hydro (BC Hydro), internet, and tenant insurance.

The day before

• Confirm key pickup time and parking with the landlord.
• Pack a first-night bag: chargers, sheets, towel, toiletries, snacks.

Move-in day

• Do a joint condition inspection with the landlord and take dated photos of every room.
• Test smoke alarms, taps, toilets, appliances, and heat.
• Note existing damage in writing on the inspection report — both parties sign.

First week

• Update your driver's licence and ID address.
• Locate the fuse box, water shut-off, and building recycling.
• Meet a neighbour — the best resource in any building.
